Community Involvement

Through our Ozarks Cares initiative we keep three main areas of focus in mind: Volunteering, Giving, and Educating. Our employees donate nearly 1,000 hours every year through our volunteer program and have raised almost $300,000 in charitable giving since 2002, half of that directly from employees’ pockets.

We feel it is our duty to do our part in educating our younger members. Each year we sponsor four local high school juniors to attend the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington D.C. and give out more than $25,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors each year.

Other examples of Ozarks' community involvement include:

Be confident in yourself. Be kind and understanding. No one is perfect and we all will make mistakes. Don’t take things personally.

My favorite part of the job is the interaction I have with our members, I love listening to the stories they have to share, from old war stories to bragging about their grandchildren.
What is a typical day like for you at Ozarks Electric?
A typical day for me is taking care of our members' needs, from taking their payment to making up a service order for the new home they are building.

What advice would you give to someone applying for a job in your department?
To be a good fit in the IT department, it’s important to have a proactive mindset, be a team player, hone your problem-solving skills, and have a willingness to stay up to date with technology.
Why did you choose Ozarks Electric?
I started off as an intern at Ozarks Electric and chose to pursue full time employment because I appreciate the member service mindset of the cooperative culture, am excited about the driving goal to be industry leaders in technology, and I enjoy the working environment. Plus, the benefits are excellent.
What is a typical day like for you at Ozarks Electric?
During a typical day at Ozarks, I am collaborating with other employees in the IT Department and throughout the company to implement our cybersecurity roadmap items.
I manage multiple projects simultaneously; create, update, and audit technology policy; research, implement, and maintain cybersecurity tools and best practices; and plan events, training, and internal communication to improve cyber security.
I also purchase software, maintain compliance with licensing agreements, and contribute to resolving help desk tickets.

The element of surprise and Ozarks’ evolution has been a draw for me. There are interesting, talented people here and the objective of our Coop to take care of our Members is at the core of our continuing success.
What is your favorite part about your job?
The favorite part of my job is the challenge of meeting deadlines and producing accurate financials. I enjoy interacting with other departments and employees to get a bigger picture of OECC and OzarksGo’s roles in bringing power to the people.

To be successful at Ozarks Electric, you should be prepared to face new challenges every day.
What advice would you give to someone applying for a job in your department?
Anyone interested in a position in Accounting should be prepared to multitask.  We all typically have inquiries throughout that day that require us to drop what we’re doing, shift gears and move in a different direction.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of my job is knowing that we work together, every day, as a team.  While we all have individual duties, we all know a little bit about everyone else’s responsibilities.  We can fill in for each other as needed, and we can bounce ideas off of each other in order to perform our duties in the most beneficial and efficient ways.

I believe that to be successful at Ozarks Electric you need a will to achieve and a positive attitude.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of my job is the fluidity of my position. I have been given the opportunity to work on multiple different projects concerning multiple different departments. This has really given me the opportunity to learn about all facets of the business. The projects that we are working on change constantly, so I am hardly ever doing the same thing each week.
How would you describe what it is like to work at Ozarks Electric in one word?

Dedication to your position. Doing your job to the best of your ability will guarantee success in anything.
What advice would you give to someone applying for a job in your department?
Be able to adapt to your environment. Because I deal with members, in their homes, on a daily basis I have learned to read people and to adapt to their attitude. Being able to identify with someone on a personal level makes a big difference to people.
What is a typical day like for you at OzarksGo?
Busy! I am always running between houses to address an issue or check the progress of an install. I run all morning till lunch, provided there is time, and then I run all afternoon and most days half of the evening.

I would tell someone applying for a position like mine that being able to prioritize tasks makes for a more efficient workday!
What is a typical day like for you at Ozarks Electric?
A typical day in my position at OzarksGo differs from day to day. The exciting part about it is that no two days are alike and I learn more each day about the FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) process.
How would you describe what it is like to work at Ozarks Electric in one word?
Fantastic.
